Secretary of State for Education visits Netherthorpe

On Thursday 22nd January we were honoured to welcome Mr. Gove’s successor, Nicky Morgan, the Secretary of State for Education who is currently on a tour visiting Good and Outstanding schools. She had asked to see innovative teaching and wanted to host a Question & Answer session with a group of teachers representing the full range of experience. We were able to showcase some of the exceptional work of our students that has recently been on display in the House of Commons and the Secretary of State showed great interest in all we were doing as a school. Questions asked by staff centred around the increased pressure brought about by constant change, the greater emphasis being placed on certain subjects to the detriment of others and the amount of debt young teachers are facing after qualifying because of fees.

We felt very privileged to have been chosen for this visit and Mrs Morgan came across as a sincere and genuinely interested politician.
